Is Cortizone Advisable Despite Taking Bactrim For Candida?

Good Afternoon: I have been taking Bactrim DS antibiotics for an infection from a scratch on my face, and using Clotrimazole USP, 1% cream for candida. Have been using both medications for a week. I now have a rash all over my body. The itching is about to drive me mad. Never experienced anything like this before. It s like my skin has suddenly gone haywire. I ve been using Cortizone-10 cream since yesterday to get some relief and I found that using aloe also helps a little, but with short term relief. Any suggestions you can make will be very welcome. Thank you sooooo much! Respectfully, Linda Murray

Hi,

Well, Bactrim is an antibiotic and the itching and rash can be due to allergic reaction to it. Applying Cortizone cream can give temporary relief as it is a topical application, so for permanent relief you need to take anti allergic oral medicines and also a steroid injection for quick resolution.

So my suggestion is to consult an emergency room and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination can be done and a steroid shot can be given. Also, oral anti allergics like Allegra or Benadryl can be advised. The antibiotic should be stopped and also the anti-fungal cream till the exact cause is confirmed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
