Is Colofac Tab Better Than Other Medicines?

Recently diagnosed with dysfunctional bowel, what exactly is difference with this and IBS or is it true there are no answers. Been following fodmap, and have prescription for amitryptaline 10mg am reluctant to start taking it as do not want to me on this medication for ever, am I being pig headed and dumb with respect to the amitrp. I have heard of colofac would that be better. sorry that s a 150 questions. this thing is wacky and comes out of nowhere?/Or seems to.I am 54, and have always been healthy

Colofac (Mebeverine hydrochloride) is a common prescription for IBS. Dysfunctional bowel is mere euphemism for IBS. The tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) like amitryptaline slows jejunal migrating motor complex transit propagation and delays orocecal and whole-gut transit, indicative of a motor inhibitory effect.

Tricyclic agents may also alter visceral afferent neural function. TCA may be beneficial in some patients but there are many other options.
