Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is 10 Mg Of Methadone,40mg Of Oxycodone Prescribed For Congenital Spinal Stenosis And Lumbar Fracture?
I was prescribed 10 mg of Methadone every 6 hours with an additional 10mg at bedtime for chronic pain (50mg per day). My diagnosis is congenital spinal stenosis. In addition, I was 40mg of oxycodone every 6 hours (160mg per day). My history also includes fractures to my lumbar from a trauma injury. It does not appear to me that Methadone is the correct medicine for my condition, as I have never used or abused drugs or alcohol. Was I prescribed properly for my condition?
Methadone and oxycodone are powerful pain relievers and they may be effective in relieving pain of congenital spinal stenosis. However they belong to opiate group of analgesics and their prolonged use may lead to the addiction. Hence these medicines can be gradually stopped if your pain is reduced moreover these drugs do not reduce inflammation and anti-inflammated drugs may also have a role in treating congenital spinal stenosis. Hence i suggest that you can also take anti-inflammated drugs such as aceclofenac additionally. Sometimes your pain may be controlled by this medicine alone or atleast this medicine will help in reduction of dosage of methadone and oxycodone. It is important to realize that these medicines only relieve the pain only and they do not cure the disease. I wish to stress that regular exercise can help to build and maintain strength of your muscels. A physiotherapist can help you in this regard.
