Intermittent Spells Of Shortness Of Breath, Resting Heart Rate Normal. Should I Worry ?

My resting heart rate is around 90bpm and I am experiencing some shortness of breath. Spells have been intermittent over last couple of weeks. Today, it has been most of the day and bothering me quite a bit. I have a doctors appointment in five days. Should I go to the emergency room? No prior history of high blood pressure or health problems. However, my mother has mitral valve prolapse.

With the available information provided by you it seems that you visit the doctor as per your appointment schedule only however if symptoms worsens or you feel palpitations or chest discomfort or irregular pulse then you can visit emergency room.
Shortness of breath may be due to other causes like asthma or exposure to allergens also which does not require emergency visit if only mild breathlessness is present. Mild shortness if bredth due to mitral regurgitation do not require emergency visit.
