Infant Turning Blue On Lips, Hands And Feet. What Could Be The Reason?
my 15 month old granddaughter turns blue - lips, hands & feet. yesterday she was taken to ER where her temp was 34.1c all the nurses and doctors were concerned. they tried to draw blood from her arm and couldn't get any and this made her lower arm turn blue. They ended up squeezing the blood from her toe. After about an hour they sent her home stating they would consult with a mayo pediatrician and come back tomorrow. At the appointment today they determined nothing was wrong - just keep her warm. Her thyroid test was 1.29. any help would be greatly appreciated

Infant Turning Blue On Lips, Hands And Feet. What Could Be The Reason?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Bluish discoloration of lips, hands, and feet as due to presence of cyanosis and poor peripheral circulation. The temperature that is low and it is called hypothermia. The bluish discoloration and low body temperature is due to decreased blood supply which usually occur in shock and it is an emergency condition. Persistent bluish discoloration is seen in congenital hear problems which are present since birth. Some time heart rhythm abnormalities may present with such sudden features of decreased blood supply to the organs. Some times a seizure episode and breath holding spells will present sudden stop of respiration and bluish discoloration. So consult your Pediatrician for further evaluation. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
