Infant Suffering With Vomiting, Loose Motions, Fever, Prescribed Medicines. Suggestions To Get Things Under Control?

Dear Dr, Our 16 months old daughter is suffering from vomitting and loose motion from today afternoon. She vomitted once in the afternoon and loose motion for about 4 times. We consulted our doctor, he found that temperature is also more, about 99.5deg F. Our doctor diagonised this as infection, prescribed the following medicines, Oflamac-M (Oflaxacin & Metronidazole ), Paracetamol , Enterogermina and ORS . We gave all these one dose in the night about 8.30 PM, loose motion is not under control, now we observed a complete liquid stool like viscous water. Temperature is also increased to 101 Deg F. We fed only liquid diet to her. My daughter looks completely week. Motion was too odourous in the afternoon, now the smell is gone. Please suggest us to handle this situation.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi
Your child is having Gastroenteritis and this could be bacterial or viral and contunue the medication as advise by your Doctor and try to give plenty of oral rehydrating solutions sips by sips in eual amounts to the losses in stools to correct, maintain and to prevent dehydration. And the loose motions will take time to decrease and they decrease gradually but you have to replace the losses with Oral rehydrating fluids and you can add zinc after consulting your doctor. If urine output , activity, are good and skin turgor is normal, oral mucosa is moist nothing to worry and any dehydration signs like decreased urine, dull, tongue dry then consult your Pediatrician for further management.
