Infant. Blocked Nose Due To Cold, Difficulty In Breathing. Can Piriton Or Antibiotics For Children Given?

Good day doc, pls my 1yr old daughter has blocked nose wiv cough, av tried steaming with eucalyptus oil but d nose is still blocked, I have piriton. And an antibiotics 4 kids at home its eleven o'clock in d night and no pharmacy is open around us. Pls doc what can I do. The blocked nose is really affecting her respiration

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

You have done the right thing by giving your daughter steam inhalation which will certainly help her in opening her nostrils. Instead of starting an antibiotic straight away I suggest that you give her Piriton 2.5 ml. three times a day which shall help her. In case the problem persists then you need to consult a doctor and start an appropriate antibiotic.
