There is a possibility that neck ailment which could be spondylitic or mechanical pain with a nerve root compression; can lead to the symptoms mentioned by you. The extent of reffered/radiating pain can go as far as the tip of thumb, anteriorly to the chest and posteriorly to the base of shoulder blades. This needs to be checked by initially by a basic neck X-Ray to check curvature of neck or any Inter vertebral space narrowing. This condition can be fixed by strengthening the muscles around the neck and shoulder girdle; and basic precautions of maintaining good posture.
