Huge Bruise On Back Due To Fall, Pain In Rear Ribs, Constant Stitch Pain, Feeling Of Internal Bleeding, Severe Stabbing Sensation. Serious?

I fell over at weekend and have a huge bruise on my back at the back of my rib cage just below bra strap line on left hand side. Rear ribs hurt so bad, including bending over and reaching things. Breathing fine but feels like a constant stitch pain and reminds me of the internal bleeding feeling I had when I had an ectopic 7 years ago. Am working but it's hard as it really hurts (I'm a waitress in local pub) so on feet all the time and am finding difficulty getting into my car and driving, as clutch and gears are left handed (as am I), feels also sometimes like a stabbing sensation mixed with a dull ache which makes me cry. Taking pain killers but people are scaring me about blood clots etc. There is no swelling, just immense pain and really bad black bruising. Do I need to worry?

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.

seems to b soft tissue injury. Bruise is due to rupture of microvasculature. Give proper rest to the area. Do ice fometation over the area.
This will take one to two weeks to go. You can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce ain and inflammation.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

As you have history of fall, pain will be there for few days and it will reduce day by day.
Persisting pain needs to be evaluated.
You can take analgesic for pain and hot fermentation over it.
If your pain persist need to consult doctor and need X-ray of chest AP view to see for any rib fracture.
Need not have to worry blood collection will slowly resolve. If you have any open wound needs to to be taken care by dressing.
Hope this answered your question. Consult your doctor for further management.
Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries or doubts and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Regards
Dr. Vidya
