Hi,

Premature ejaculation is where a man ejaculates too quickly during sexual intercourse. It's a common ejaculation problem. Causes of premature ejaculation are psychological factors like anxiety, fear, depression, traumatic sexual experience at an early age and underlying physical conditions like smoking, consumption of alcohol, substance abuse, injuries to nerve, poor blood supply to the penis, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, DM, obesity, erratic lifestyle, HTN, hormonal imbalance etc.

Treatment depends on causes. Some investigations like RBS, pelvic ultrasound, thyroid function test, s.testosterone, pelvic MRI etc to find out the underlying causes for premature ejaculation and then treat them accordingly. But, there are some self-help techniques you can try before getting medical help including masturbating 1-2 hour before having sex, using a thick condom to help decrease sensation, taking a deep breath to briefly shut down the ejaculatory reflex, having sex with your partner on top, taking breaks during sex and distracting yourself by thinking about something completely different etc.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Dapoxetine can be used if self-help techniques don't improve the problem. You can take this medication between 1-3 hours before sex. Anaesthetic creams and sprays like Lidocaine or Prilocaine cream with a condom can be effective too in this regards.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
