How To Treat Osteonecrosis Of Jaw?

I have osteonecrosis of the jaw. This developed after being on the drug Zometa for two years to treat a metatastic breast/bone cancer. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and underwent a mastectomy. I have undertaken a 12 month trial study of the drug Teraparatide which is used to treat osteoperosis. Apparently there has been some success in patients with ONJ being treated with Teraparatide. Two years ago I had a tooth removed on my lower jaw and I am still suffering from infection in the socket. I ve had a debridement procedure to try to relive/remove the infection with limited success. Several courses of Antibiotics have failed to heal the socket. I have been on a course of Endep and Lyrica for pain management also with limited success. I am in the process of gradually increasing the dose of Lyrica to see if this resolves the pain. I have chronic pain, mainly in the evening and during bedtime. I average about 2-3 hours sleep each night because of the pain. Could I be treated with Teraparatide? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Grace

hello thanks for consulting at hcm..Medical treatment for ORN is mainly supportive. Adequate nutritional support, Debridement and daily saline irrigation of the affected area has to be done. Antibiotics for secondary infection. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be given to increase the amount of oxygen that the tissues receive. Increased oxygen stimulates the growth and proliferation of the fibroblasts, and also increases the production of collagen. Surgical treatment involves the removal of dead bone tissue in a procedure known as sequestrectomy can be done. In Grade III ORN, restoration of the blood supply using microvascular reconstruction techniques is considered as the standard of care.plz consult ur oral maxillofacial surgeon for treatment..hp it helps..tc
