How To Treat Headache Due To Epidula After Giving Birth?

This is on behalf of my 35 year old daughter. She had an epidula on giving birth to he rfirst chils two years ago. The very next day she had to be re-admitted to hospital due to severe and dibilatating headaches. The hospital said it was due to the epidura and administered a "patch" and sent her home.

Since then the headaches have continued and she has been on various quite strong medication, had loads of blood test and an MRI scan. She has also had some "blocker" injections in the base of her neck which she was advised would keep the pain at bay for a number of months. In fact the release only lasted until the numbness from the injection wore off - a matter of hours.

What can you advise.

Hello and welcome,

Sometimes there is formation of a sinus track due to epidural puncture from where the cerebrospinal fluid leaks. Due to this there are headaches.

The best cure is a blood patch in the epidural space which helps relieve the symptoms [ I am not sure where a patch was given in her case, did they give her a medicated patch or a procedure was done in the operation theatre].

Please see an anesthetist for this as they are the ones that perform the procedure. Do not worry. This happens in very rare cases but it does get relieved.

Hope this satisfies your query.
