How To Treat Brain Injury Mediated Fits?

My brother who met with a road accident started getting Fits few years later. He has a brain injury but scans taken regularly do not show any deterioration. Encorate Chrono is prescribed to him 400mg twice.

Now, after about 4 -5 years, he suffers confusion and we suspect that encorate chrono dose is too much for him. Can we reduce it to 400mg (Morning) + 200mg (Night) to ease this situation. He has difficulty in getting up and walking and he says his limbs are paining.

Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J.Mariano Anto Bruno Mascarenhas. I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help you.

Background : My brother who met with a road accident started getting Fits few years later. He has a brain injury but scans taken regularly do not show any deterioration. Encorate Chrono is prescribed to him 400mg twice.

Problems : Now, after about 4 -5 years, he suffers confusion and we suspect that encorate chrono dose is too much for him. Can we reduce it to 400mg (Morning) + 200mg (Night) to ease this situation. He has difficulty in getting up and walking and he says his limbs are paining.

Answer :
The Difficulty in Getting up and Walking can be due to various reasons like Post Traumatic Hydrocephalous. Hence a thorough workup is needed.

The proposed Plan of Action would be
1. MRI Brain Plain and Contrast
2. EEG

If there are no lesions in MRI + if EEG is normal, we can reduce the dose of Encorate Chrono

If EEG is abnormal, we need to give some other drugs and reduce the dose of Encorate Chrono

I would advice you to consult a Neurosurgeon in your place at the earliest
