How To Interpret Uterus Scan Results?

My scan results said, the uterus appears enlarged, heterogenous, anteverted and non-gravid measuring 13.68cm x 7.37cm. Multiple intramural fibroids noted. The largest one measures 4.17cm x 2.88cm. The endometrial stripe was not visualized. Internal os is closed. The ovaries were not visualized however; no adnexal mass/lesions are seen. No evidence of free fluid noted. What does this mean?

Hi,

1. Enlarged uterus along with several intramural fibroid means - there is enlargement of smooth muscle fibre along with connective tissue inside the uterus. And the presence of these points out towards surgical management.
2. Non-gravid means you are not pregnant.
3. Endometrial stripe means the cavity inside the uterus which measures 5mm if you are menstruating is not visualized.
4. Internal OS closed means the part of the cervix (inner end towards the cavity of the uterus called internal os and outer end towards the vagina called external os) is closed. Basically, these two are the openings to be seen and taken care of when the lady is pregnant.
5. Ovaries could not be seen
6. No free fluid or mass in the adnexa means you are not having any kind of infection at present.

The overall picture is you should visit your gynecologist for the management of fibroids in your uterus.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
