How To Determine An Infected Artificial Knee Joint?
I had a total knee replacement 1/2 year ago and am to pre-medicate before seeing a dentist for the rest of my life. What are the symptoms if my artificial knee joint becomes infected? Specifically, I m wondering about 5+ years from now, after everything has healed 100%. Thanks.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us. Joint replacement infections may occur in the wound or deep around the artificial implants. An infection may develop during your hospital stay or after you go home. Joint replacement infections can even occur years after your surgery. If bacteria gain access to the implants, they may multiply and cause an infection. Signs and symptoms of an infected joint replacement include: Increased pain or stiffness in a previously well-functioning joint, Swelling, Warmth and redness around the wound, Wound drainage, Fevers, chills and night sweats, Fatigue Hope this helps you.
