Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husbands BP has been running in the 140/90.s range but tonight it was the highest at 159/104. I am concerned. Do we need to seek help now? He is 5/7" and 210# otherwise in good health. He had back surgery on May 27th and is doing well. Has been walking over 2 miles a day.
Hello Your husband's blood pressure is elevated, normal is less than 130/85. To start with, he should consume no more than 2 grams of sodium/salt per day. It sounds like he is already physically active, which is great. There are many different medications that can be used to bring the blood pressure down to normal range. They should be given under physician supervision. I recommend you seek medical care soon. The effects of elevated blood pressure includes heart attack and stroke, in addition to enlarged heart. Best of luck
