How Much Is The Possibility Of Reactivation Of CMV?

Hi Doc, one physycian in USA confirmed me that my CMV IGG has gone positive and CMV IGM negative, so now its totally safe to have sex with a wife and I can not trasmit CMV to my wife. Kindly clear me Asked On : Tue, 3 Dec 2013 Answers: 1 Views: 2 Edit General & Family Physician, Dr. Bihle Nestor Mbinkar s Response Hi, CMV IgG positive only means that you were once infected by CMV in your life time. Positive IgM indicates that either you are newly infected, you have been infected in the past but recently re-exposed to CMV or undergoing reactivation of CMV infection acquired in the past. So if only IgG is positve, it means that there is no active infection and you can have sex with your wife I hope I have answered your query I wish you good health 1. Thanks Doc, so it is clear that my wife will not be infected from me and baby will be healthy CMV free? 2. And how much is the possibility of reactivation of CMV in a life and how frequent is it? 3. If reactivated, how much time does it take to become IGG positive and IGM negative?

Hi I did review your concern.
With a negative IgM and positive IgG your CMV active infection phase has more likely passed. However, I would advise you to repeat a IgG level as to see if its not rising
Your risk of transmitting it to your wife is very low. However, the more sensitive test is PCR test to detect viral load to detect the chances of transmission to your wife and hence to your child
I hope this helps
Wish you all the best
