How Long Does It Take For Swollen Lymph Nodes In The Neck To Go Away?

My 8 year old grandson has had swollen lymph node in is neck for about a year. They just removed his VERY enlarged tonsils two days ago. The doctor said the tonsils were so enlarged that he had to bring them out to show my daughter. A month before the tonsil removal, the lymph nodes going down the side behind his ear swelled up--and one under his arm. He did not get any antibiotics after the tonsil removal. Will the lymph nodes go dow---and how long might it take to see a difference?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have to confirm that weather it is reactionary lymphadenopathy or lymphoma or tuberculosis etc. Confirm by take lymphnode biopsy and send it for culture and sensitivity. Please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and write appropriate antibiotics according to body weight.
