How Long Does Tetrahydrocannabinol Stay In The Body?

Hello Doctor, My friend made a mistake and smoked weed only once just for trying and now she is terrified that she might have a blood test. So my question is, how long does it take to get the THC completely out of her system? -She is skinny, eats well, and exercise s every single day. Thank you,

Hi,

Cannabis is used for recreational and medical purposes. It can be taken orally or smoking or through nasal route. Inhalation of the tetrahydrocannabinol has rapid action between 3 to 10 minutes. By oral route, it may take upto two hours for metabolism and absorption. Bioavailability is more in oral route compared to inhalational route.

Tetrahydrocannabinol is distributed mostly in plasma about 90 percent and rest in red blood cells. It gets deposited in fat tissue. In oral route, the maximum active compounds deposit in brain and muscles than the blood. Later the plasma concentration increased by fat redistribution.

In occasional users, half life is about less than one and quarter days. But it is more for about 27 days in chronic users. About sixty five percent of the drug get excreted via feces, twenty percent via urine after metabolized by liver into water soluble metabolites. Complete excretion may take about seven to ten days in occasional users. But more in chronic users.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
