How Long Bleeding Last After Removal Of Mirena?

Mirena taken out after 5 yrs thursday. New mirena inserted... How long will i experience bleeding? I thought there would just be spotting at time of insetion, now i am reading it could be weeks/months. First mirena was inserted while i was sedated and had an ablation done as well. Therefore i associated the discharge the first time to ablation, didnt think this new one would cause bleeding?

Warm Welcome. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.

I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

I know your frustration and intrauterine contraceptive devices like mirena can sometimes lead to heavy bleeding. It will improve with less or no bleeding at all in coming months. Till then, there are few ways to control your current periods.

If I were your treating physician, I would advise you to take:
• Tab. Premarin (estrogen only pill) once daily for 7 days. It will help in blood clotting and improve vascular supply to uterine lining.
• Cap. Tranexamic acid 500mg three times daily for 4-7days. It will actively stop bleeding.
• Tab. Ponstan (mefenamic acid) for 4-7 days. It is also help in stopping heavy bleeding.

You may consult your gynaecologist about what to do if you experience heavy bleeding again in future.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Keep a follow up to see how you doing.

Regards!
