How Can Recurrent Vaginal Infection Caused After Intercourse Be Prevented?
My husband and I are sexual active. He is 70 and I am 65 years old. The problem is that I get a infection every time we are intimate. It has always caused me a lot of pain and I have seen many Doctors and took a lot of antibiotics but nothing seems to help us. Please help. Oh, he has never been circuside.
The age-related dryness of the vaginal mucosa along with the lack of protective estrogen is the most common cause of the recurrent infections. Though the infection is treated through antibiotics, recurrence occurs if prophylaxis is not taken, which is usually for 3-6 months.
Providing some sort of lubrication during sexual intercourse is helpful. If possible, estrogen patches may be suggested after a proper clinical evaluation. Exclusion of high blood sugar is needed since the infections are recurrent. Please also check if your husband has nay infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
