How Can Patella Alta Be Treated Non Surgically?

Both of my knees have been dislocating since I was 12 years old. I'm 18, now, and they've each dislocated 5 times. Recently, I haven't been able to stand for long periods of time without on of them buckling forward. When this happens I get a sharp pain and a burning sensation. When I was 14 a doctor told me that my patella was set too high, and I asked him if that mattered. He said no. I googled a bit and found out that there's something called Patella Alta. Should I be worried about that? Do I need to see a doctor? Are there any treatments for Patella Alta that don't involve surgery?
