Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a dry cough and sore throat for a few weeks, I was not feeling well about two weeks ago and went to the clinic was diagnosed with the flu and given some pills for my cough. I had a reaction to the cough medicine which was treated with Benrdryl I still have the cough and sore throat and am very tired and have been having mild to moderate muscle aches.
Brief answer: Other causes of sore throat need to be checked.
Explanation: My opinion is that sore throat, lethargy, muscle aches, and low grade fever should be well assessed. Infectious mononucleosis is a common disease that causes these symptoms that is a viral infection with supportive treatment and follow-up is the main plan of management. Also, many blood diseases can cause this condition. The information provided by you is not sufficient to provide a good opinion.
If someone comes to me with this condition I would ask them about past medical history. Do a full body exam looking for any lymph nodes or abdominal swellings and sure some lab tests like CBC, pelvi abdominal ultrasonography and ESR.
Conclusion: I suggest you get an appointment with your GP to do such things and if needed refer you to a specialist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahmmad Gamal
