How Can Chronic Constipation And Bloody Bowel Movement Be Treated?

three weeks ago i had 2 stents put my heart. aspirin and plavix has caused upper bleeding. stools w ere black and they gave me 4 units of blood.The bleeding has not stopped and stools are black and i m terribly constipated. tomarrow have to go in for at least 3 more units of blood or more. i am so constipated. i have been eating prunes, i m scared

Hi,

I understand your concern.

The upper bleeding caused by aspirin and plavix should be further investigated. Upper endoscopy highly recommended to rule out ulcer or other malign stomach problems. This will also help determine the right treatment strategy and not to have anymore upper bleeding.

Constipation should be treated with:
- increased fluids intake
- apart eating prunes, you should take laxatives like senna, and stool softeners like lactulose
- take more fiber rich foods
- light walking especially after eating can help
