How Can Cellulitis Be Treated?

I have a grossly overweight neighbour who has cellulitis. He cannot move around and doesn t qualify for any help as he is 57 years old and a high dependency patient. He can t fit into an ambulance and says the hospital won t treat him :( He has open sores on his feat that weren t redressed and now has maggots in them. Is it best to keep them unwrapped and left to dry and, also does the hospital have a right to not treat him? Please be aware that these questions are not for myself. Thank you.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If he is overweight or obese, then he may also have diabetes which would affect healing of his lesions.
If his blood sugars are high, infections would not heal.

He may need control of blood sugars though diet changes and medication since would not be able to exercise and also a course of antibiotics as well.
He needs to elevate the limb.

The maggots are going to eat away the dead tissue. The infected areas should be cleaned with an antiseptic such as betadine, hydrogen peroxide etc then antibiotic cream applied then the area dressed.
It still needs to be seen.
