Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with 50 percent blockage in my arteries near the heart. Is there anything I can do to lower this number? I have started exercise and I have an excellent diet. I have all but omitted sugar. Eat veggies etc. I try to eat fruit, but I have only a couple that I favor. I got my cholesterol down to 170, blood pressure is all over the place, last 134/82. Tri glycerides were a bit high at 205.
Hello, First of all I appreciate your effort in trying to get your blood lipid levels down. Marinating an active lifestyle is the foremost in managing the progression of any cardiovascular disease.
You must know that blocks or atherosclerosis is something that cannot be reduced by medicines or lifestyle changes but it can be prevented from progressing. That's why you must never give up in your exercise or diet.
Removal of the block will need a surgery which is nowadays minimally invasive. You would be suggested to perfom an angioplasty with a stent in place if your physician finds the block can substantially reduce the blood supply to your heart based on your lab and scan reports.
Till then, do not over exert yourself, lead an active lifestyle, continue medications, eat healthy.
