Hello,
Bacterial Vaginosis [BV] is a common condition and although is not harmful but can cause disturbing symptoms like vaginal odor and
vaginal discharge.
Apart from diagnosing BV, one has to exclude the possibility of STDs,
Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia. One has to exclude any other secondary condition occurring simultaneously like antibiotic use, IUD's, smoking, and douching.
Male partners usually do not require treatment but for management purpose, a course of
metronidazole can be given to both partners simultaneously for 7 days.
Since, women with BV are more susceptible to PID (
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease), infection, inflammation of upper female genital tract thus seek an opinion of a gynecologist, till then maintain a good genital hygiene and take Vitamin B complex: 1 capsules per day for 10 days.
It will be better to take the vaginal swab to know the causative organism.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
