How Can Anxiety And Depression Be Managed?

So i am currently being treated for combined anxiety and depresion although lately the depression has been more pronounced mEds. 150 Bupropion 150 mg extended release and zanex.05 mg. After a brief consult it was suggested Bupropion xl 150 may work better for depression and help with anxiety. Lexapro was also recommended. I do not want to take more than 2 meds for my symptoms. i was originally diagnosed in 2012 , however life events in the last 1/1/2 yrs have made it more difficult to manage . My behavioural health in general has not improved. i can t seem to hold down a steady job and considering disability benefits. I am a 60 year male 5 11 210 lbs ..generally good health physically , exercise regularly.. except in the winter months

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Firstly as you have mentioned that your depression is not under control Its better to shift to Lexapro as Bupropion is not as effective as Lexapro. Bupropion is not that effective for anxiety too. And if your sleep is normal, its better to taper Xanax over a period of one month and then stop as it as addiction potential. Bupropion is generally preferred as an add on drug to tab Lexapro. Two options for you sir. Either take a combination of tablet Lexapro and Bupropion and avoid Xanax. Or else shift to tablet Lexapro by gradually tapering Bupropion. You will feel better with Lexapro than that of Bupropion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
