How Can An Itchy Rash On The Perineum Be Treated?

About a week ago I began to form this rash on my perineum. The rash seems to only have gotten worse. Often It itches, I even reached my finger down there to scratch it, and when I did that, I noticed how it felt a little rough to the touch. What I mean by rough is, it s slightly bumpy and there s this horrible smell that comes from it. I assume that the smell is just the oily substance covering it, or sweat. I don t think it s from a poor hygiene because I shower daily. Although, I do ride my bike to school a couple times a week and I get really sweaty so I ve been using GoldBond Extra Strength body powder to keep it dry. Could the GoldBond be causing this?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history you are having fungal infection called as tinea corporis.
My treatment advice is -
1. Maintain good hygiene and bath twice daily.
2. Apply an antifungal cream like clotrimazole cream twice daily on affected skin.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral fluconazole, itraconazole and terbinafine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
