How Can A Large Ovarian Cyst Be Treated?

I am 55 years old and I have a fairly large cyst on my left ovary and a smaller one on the right. I have low thyroid. The ovary on the left may be causing constipation and I want to have it removed. The doctor says she can remove it and the ovary. Can these go away on their own? And will my thyroid issue improve if I have the surgery?

Hi there, I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

First of all do not panic.
Please start with your thyroid related medication at the earliest from your endocrinology expert.
Ovarian cysts can be treated with laparoscopy or open surgery, depending on the choice of your gynecologist.
To remove ovaries or to get the cyst removed is surgical decision.
Please get CA 125, CEA, BETA HCG,LDH levels done before surgery. All these help as malignant tumor markers for ovarian cancer. If these are negative, then you need not worry.

Secondly, ovarian cyst surgery has no role on the thyroid gland function. Other way round , treatment of thyroid disorders might cause reduction in the ovarian cyst.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
