Heavy Periods With Clotting. Ultrasound Showed Thick Endometrial Lining. Possible Cancer?

I found out through an ultrasound that my endometrial lining is borderline thick. My doctor is having me go to a gynocologist for a consult. He had ordered an ultrasound thinking I might have a cyst since I had complained of some heavy menstrual cycles with clotting. I am 54 and have not had any signs of menapause as yet. What would be the reason for the lining to thicken? Do I need to be concerned about cancer at this point?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

While cancer is less likely because you are still not in menopause, it should be enough of a concern to make sure:
1. They repeat the ultrasound in the week after your period
2. They perform a biopsy of the inside of your uterus

I hope that this helps and good luck!
