I woke up one morning and I could not hear out of my left ear. I had no cold, no trauma, no symptoms of anything at all. My PCP put me on Prednisone for 10 days and Axomocillin for 10 days. Went to my ENT and he put me on another 3 weeks of Prednisone. Had a hearing test which showed that there was no hearing out of my left ear. There is no fluid, but increased ringing in my ear. Had an MRI of my head, and no tumor. He said I will have permanent hearing loss and there is nothing more I can do. AFter my 30 days of prednisone, went to another ENT who took another hearing test with no change. She too said there is no fluid and said that I have permanent hearing loss. Nobody can give me a reason for this loss except that both say it is a viral infection to my middle ear (or in other words - my thoughts, nobody knows what happened). Shall I continue on to the Mayo Clinic for more tests or is this actually something where I am fine one day and out of the blue I have no hearing? Please help.
