Having Gastroparesis, Acid Reflux, Barett S Oesophagus. Advised Gastric Bypass For Complete Cure. Opinion?

I have gastroparesis, acid reflux, and Barrett's esophagus. I am not diabetic. I am considering gastric surgery and the surgeon told me that I was a a good candidate for a full gastric bypass but that she would not recommend a gastric sleeve or a lap-band for someone with these issues. She also said the gastroparesis and maybe even the acid reflux will go away. Does that sound right?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Dear friend,

Thanks for posting your query on this website. I can fully appreciate your concern for the ongoing problem.

May I inform you that Barett's Esophagitis is often caused by long-standing Gastro-Esophageal-Reflux-Disease (called GERD in short).

So, logically speaking, before you undergo surgery (which would not only involve high expenditure but also long-term sequele of surgery), I will strongly recommend a full course of xxx-xxxx treatment (for 14-21 days, depending on the response), followed by 3-6 months' of PPIs such as xxx/ xxxetc. (PROVIDED THE SAME HAS NOT BEEN PRESCRIBED TO YOU EARLIER).

Dietary restriction, as advised by your doctor, should be strictly followed.

I am highly optimistic that you will certainly benefit from the advice.

May I assure you that I am always available for your assistance and will try my best to take care of your condition to the best of my experience and knowledge.

Awaiting your reply,

Fond Regards,

Dr. Karanwal
