If there is fever for 11 days your kid needs to be investigated for the fever after physical examination. Does your kid have any sore throat, cough, burning urination, frequency of urination etc?
Investigations like CBC, peripheral smear for malarial parasite, urine routine, urine culture and sensitivity, widal, etc may be ordered by your paediatrician. Depending on those reports further action has to be taken.
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care.
You are correct in NOT giving your child chloramphenicol, which is not even used in the US anymore. While an excellent antibiotic it can cause a fatal reaction in the bone marrow like leukemia and lead to death. A better choice would be one of the cephalosporin medications such as cefdenir, cefixime, etc.
