Have Trouble Swallowing Food. Drinking Water Does Not Help. Painful. Treatment?

I sometimes have trouble swallowing food. It seems to get stuck in my throat and I have to swallow really hard and take a drink to get the food to go down. A few times lately when I,ve swallowed a pill, it feels like it's stuck at the top of my esophagus. Drinking water and eating food doesn't make the feeling go away. It's painful and keeps me awake at night. I feel like the pill is just sitting there. What should I do?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern regarding swallowing. You seem to have difficulty swallowing both food and water. This cannot be neglected and needs to be looked into. You probably have some disease affecting your food pipe.

You will need to undergo a upper GI Endoscopy and a consult with gastroenterologist.
You may also need a special X ray examination called Barium Swallow.

Based on the diagnosis from abovebthe further treatment will be planned.
Do let me know in case you have any questions.

Take care of your health
