hi carol
thanks for posting query
i can understand the amount of pain you must be having with your ruptured tendon... your doctor is correct to some extent because if your tendon is broken completely then you have two options that you go for its repair ... repair is performed by orthopedic surgeon through a surgery... the success rates of this surgery are low... but not nil, i say... you will have to take rest of 6- 8 months after surgery...
other option is to leave your tendon as it is and wait for its healing.. yes it heals by itself also but will take 1 - 1.5 year in proper healing... you will be completely fine after that and dear you have to take rest till then also, not complete rest but avoid picking up of heavy weights and avoid its exercises...
in my opinion the second one is a better choice like that of your doctor... i will help you to relieve your pain till then you have to take medicines for at least two months and also give you affected area a warm saline water bath every day..
medicines you can ask you doctor any pain killer containing serratiopeptidases twice a day... also combine with vitamins and calcium supplements...

follow up is invited
thank you
