Have Positive Chronic, Acute Lymes. On Antibiotics. On Doxycycline. Advised To Have Ceftin. Is Allergic To It. Suggestions?
My son was undiagnosed for three years and finally after using a specialty lab he was positive with chronic and acute lymes. My son has been on antibiotics for six months. He just had repeat bloodwork and he is still positive. Doctor just wants to watch him because he is symptom free and then thought to put in on another 3 months of antibiotics to be sure. What would you recommene. He was on doxycycline, minicylcine now the wanted to put him on Ceftin, which he is allergic to.
Hi ! Lymes disease is transmitted by tick bites. So if you reside in a place where ticks are rampant, then please see that proper precautions are taken to avoid tick bite, which may give rise to persistent infection. Ceftin is also a drug used to treat Lyme's disease. The course of treatment is usually from 21-28 days which should be sufficient. The positivity of the test report may be due to some persisting antibodies in the blood which might also cause some kind of auto immune response. It is usually seen that prolonged antibiotic treatment may not completely help in making the test reports negative. I would suggest you to consult a medical specialist of your area for further opinion. Good luck.
