Is Ceftin Safe To Take While Being Allergic To Penicillin?
Hi doctor, ceftin was prescribed to me today, and my doctor knows that I have been allergic to penicillin when at age 7 (now I m 37) assuring me that I m still in a safe zone. but somehow I don t feel comfortable with this. any suggestion? thank you in advance, jay

Hello,
Ceftin is known as cephalosporin which is marginally related to penicillin. Thus if you are allergic to penicillin you have around a 10% risk of getting an allergy with it. If you dont feel comfortable you ask your doctor to give you other types of antibiotics such as macrolides or 4-quinolones.
