Have Had Dry Patch On Lower Lip. Was Reddish And Burned And Peels Off. Should I Be Concerned?
Hi, I have had a rough dry small patch on my bottom lower lip. It seems to come and go it seemed reddish almost burned a few months ago and I asked my dentist. He said it looked like my lips were dry and the area could have been irritated. It is still there and sometimes peels off and isn't there. I am getting nevous about it and will ask the dentist again. should I be worried and see a dematologist?
Dryness of skin especially the skin over the lips becomes dry during winters or in the season when the air is dry. This can be prevented by using emollients (topical preparations which retain the moisture of the skin and prevent drying e.g. petroleum jellies). However, if the dryness and peeling off is recurrent and is unrelated to the seasonal variations, then you need to consult your dermatologist. A clinical examination is required in such a case. This could be a primary skin disease like psoriasis, seborrhoic keratosis, etc. Clinical examination and / or biopsy will ascertain the cause of such symptoms.
