Have Diabetes, Had Thyroid Cancer, Swelling In Joints, Trigger Finger Painful. Done Surgery. Why Was SED Rate High?
Dr. I have diabetes and have had thyroid cancer surgery in 2011 I am currently taking meds for both. A question for you I had a high Sed rate under 40 was the normal and mine was 60 I have allot of swelling of the joints mostly in hands and I have trigger finger very painful. My Physicians Assistant tells me that it is all ok. He did tell me that the RA panel was normal just sed rate was high.
Increase in ESR indicates presence of inflammation in the system. It is not specific to any condition but can increase in many conditions like chronic infection and inflammatory conditions like arthritis, connective tissue disorders etc.. In your case it may be increased due to the arthritis of the joints of the hands. Follow up with serial ESR and consult your doctor.
