Have Bloating, Tenderness And Stomach Pain

Hi - I have been having severe bloating and stomach and side tenderness for the past (4) days. I am not nauseous nor do I have diarrhea, but leading up to this I am always hungry and have been gaining weight at an alarming rate. I also have gas all the time (belching) and I feel dizzy with stomach pains when I am hungry. I am a 48 year old male, around 265 pounds. I am trying to lose weight by eating right and exercising but can t even get started due to this problem I deal with daily.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Bloating and stomach pains can be due to intestinal infection or obstruction of some sort in intestinal tract. You have also been gaining weight and unable to start exercises and dieting. I would advise you the following in such a situation:

Get a consultation of a Gastroenterologist or a center of Bariatric surgery as they have all the facilities of dietitian, physiotherapy and exercises guide and all the set of investigations to find the cause of the said problems.

Feeling hungry, dizzy and having stomach pains can be due to hunger pains itself or hyper-acidity. I would advise you the following in such a situation:

Get the blood tests particularly for diabetes, thyroid, liver function. Tests of stool and urine. Ultrasonography of abdomen and X-ray of abdomen in standing position. Upper GI endoscopy. All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and have a plan of management.

You have to get started with exercises and also have a diet plan to reduce the weight.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
