Had Throidectomy Due To Under Active Thyroid. Taking Synthroid And Cytomel. Am I Susceptible To Cold Due To Thyroid?

Hi, I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid a couple of years ago, had nodules that grew and ended up having a complete thyroidectomy. I take synthroid and cytomel and many vitamins, but I seem to be very susceptible to colds and the like. Is this to do with my thyroid disease? what can I do, I hate being sick.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
You are suffering from cold intolerance.
As you had thyroidectomy, you are given synthyroid ( levothyroxine) and cytomel (liothyroxine) to compensate the loss of natural secretion of thyroid hormones by thyroid.
Cold intolerance is a symptom of hypothyrodism ie. low thyroid hormone level.
Thus the dose of both synthyroid ( levothyroxine) and cytomel (liothyroxine) is not sufficient for you .
Please consult your treating endocrinologist to recheck the thyroid hormone levels for you.
Better to revise and increase the dose according your body needs.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
