Had Rabies Vaccination, Got Bitten By Dog. Do I Need Vaccination Again?

Hi. I am Louis Mendoza and I am 12 years old. When I was 9 or 10 I got a rabies vaccination cause' I got bitten by a dog 1-2 years old. And then I got bitten by a dog with rabies free injection (4months old dog) But the injection of the dog is not yet complete. Do I have to get a vaccination again or am I RABIES free? Thanks :)

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

You should get vaccinated again.

If you got your complete vaccination done previously now only post exposure prophylaxis is required.

Else you should get complete course of rabies vaccination.

Also you should get tetanus toxoid.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

Hi thanks for your question.
The duration of immunity afforded to humans by a 2 injection vaccination course was found to be between 2 to 3 years Following administration of booster dose recommended at one year demonstrate a protective levels of neutralizing antibodies at 10 years.
Since only 2 years have passed since you have recived rabbies vaccine there is no need to take vaccine this time. However consultation with a local phsician is advisible.
Hope this answers your question.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

If you have taken complete schedule ( 5 doses of injections on 0,3,7,14,28 days) of rabies vaccination at the age of 9 or 10 years, now you will require 3 injections of rabies vaccine on 0, 3, and 7th day.

So you need vaccination against rabies at present again but with only 3 injections.

So consult your Physician for vaccination.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,
Rabies is a viral infection transmitted in the saliva of infected mammals You are 12/girl. You had dog bite 2 or 3 yrs back for which you have taken the rabies vaccine. After that also you had a dog bite but when not known and the dog has not competed course of rabies vaccination. Even though the dog is alive, dog is not having symptoms of rabies it better to have at lest 3 inj. of rabipur instead of 5, at 0-3-7 interval to get a mental relaxation.
Best wishes
