Had Fever, Seizure. On Valparin. Do Medicines Have Side Effects?
Now my child is 8years old.Due to high triggered fever a seizure had occurred only once in the year 2011 month 29th Nov, paediatrician started Valparin 200 5ml twice in a day for two years. .in between and after there is no sign of seizure/occurred again.Child's weight is 26kgs.But the doctor increased the dose of medicine from 5ml to 10ml. is there any chances of side effects.? Is there any need to continue the medicine to complete the course?
Generally, a child with single seizure can not be classified as epilepsy, and there is no need of long term medicines in them. So, either we do not give medicines or give it for a shorter duration, such as six months.
However, if there is a high risk of recurrence, such as problems on MRI or EEG, or a family history of epilepsy, then, we may have to give medicines for a longer time.
Valparin is a safe drug.
