Had Fever And Swollen Gums. Suspect A Virus Attack. Treatment Needed?

Hello my 2 1/2 year old came down with a virus, she had a fever for a week and swallon gums, we went to the doctor and was put on amoxicilin but said the gums will have to heal on their own. She has awful breath and I can see a little white between her 2 front teeth favoring to one side. I'm looking to find the name of the virus that the doctor said it was. She is in serious pain and don't know why to do to help help!!
