I had bowel resection in Feb. Since my surgery I have had multiple UTI's. Cystoscopy found a fistula. Assuming it is a bowel bladder connection test were done to locate it. Barium enema, sigmoidoscopy, and CT did not locate the connection. I also have been experiencing air coming from my urethra, periodically. I have been on antibiotics, prophylacticly and when I have symptoms the dosage is increased. I have a cons appt w/ my surgeon (general) to discuss the options. He's already told me I will need open surgery to remove more bowel due to more diverticuli & to locate the fistula, followed with 1mo. catheter & 6 mos colostomy. As you can imagine I am devastated by all of this. I have planned several trips , one of which is a 6wk stay in Thailand. I don't want to travel with a colostomy for obvious reason incl. the hygiene factor in foreign countries. I would like to delay the surgery until I return to the US. My trip is planned for Jan-Feb. Would it be any benefit for me to have another opinion perhaps by a bariatric surgeon? Pls. advise.
