Got Head Injury. CT Scan Shows 13. His CT Scan Report Shows Bilateral Cerebral Hemisphere Shows Normal Attenuation. Consult A Neurosurgeon?
My 4 years old son got head injury on 05.07.13. his CT Scan report is as under
date:08.07.2013 (CT Scan)
Bilateral cereral hemisphere shows normal attenuation. No evidence of subdural/extradural haematoma at present.
Bilateral cistern & bilateral sylvian cistern are normal.
Bilateral lateral ventricle, 3rd & 4th ventricle appear normal.
No evidence of midline shift.
Bilateral cerebellar hemisphere,pons & midbrain shows normal attenuation.
Bone windows reveals no abnomility,however soft tissue swelling seen arround left parietal region.
The patient has been prescribed medicine by a surgeon, now, I want to know is patient need further consultation with neurosurgeon, to ensure that if there might be a chances of blood clotting in skull. kindly advise.

I would explain the CT scan findings in simple language.
1. Bilateral cereral hemisphere shows normal attenuation. No evidence of subdural/extradural haematoma at present.
This is a normal finding. There is no bleeding inside the brain or any bleeding outside the brain and internal to the skull.
2. Bilateral cistern & bilateral sylvian cistern are normal.'
This is a normal finding.This concerns that small fluid containing areas are normal.
3. Bilateral lateral ventricle, 3rd & 4th ventricle appear normal.
This is a normal finding. There are larger fluid containing spaces which are normal in this report.
4. No evidence of midline shift.
There is no increase in pressure inside the brain.
5. Bilateral cerebellar hemisphere,pons & midbrain shows normal attenuation.
The smaller brain (cerebellum) located at the back of the head and brain stem are normal.
6. Bone windows reveals no abnormality.
This is a normal finding. There is no skull fracture.
7. Soft tissue swelling seen arround left parietal region.
There is a little swelling over the scalp (outside the skull) on left side upper part of head. You can touch and feel this by hand. There is no brain injury.
In conclusion, there is no need to for consultation with neurosurgeon at the moment.
Patient may be given little rest for some time.
