Getting Pain After Nose Cauterization Surgery And Have Blurred Vision. Any Nerve Injury?

My 90 yrs old mother had her nose cauterizered due to nose bleeds . It was done in an Emerg. situation as she was brought in from a nursing home. She s quite bright and totally with it. She said that this was the worst pain that she d ever had. She had just had a catarcact removed 3 weeks prior. She now says that her vision is blurred in that I and feels that some nerves may have been affected. Is this possible?

hello and welcome to HCM,

I have understood your problem regarding nose surgery, eye surgery and vision blurring.

Unless the nose cauterization surgery involved a procedure called the FESS then it is very very unlikely that the surgery can affect the vision in any way.
In FESS however your vision can be affected especially if these were extensive sinusitis and the procedure took a long time and is usually done under general anesthesia so it should not have been painful.

Nose cauterization surgery however is a very small procedure which if done under local anesthesia can be painful but is very unlikely to cause vision loss.

However any surgery however small can cause vision loss either directly or indirectly but this instance is very rare.

You need to consult your ophthalmologist immediately so that he can confirm the proper cause of vision blur and initiate proper treatment.
