Getting Headaches After Using Alternate Medication For Topamax. Can I Get Topamax?

I am in dire need for BRAND Topamax. My Neurologist has tried me on every medication available. I have been on BRAND Topamax for years. It is the ONLY medication that works for me, and very well (no side effects). I was taking 200mg at QHS, and 100mg q am. I tried the GENERIC Topamax and had extreme side effects: headache every day, just overall extreme sickness. I can not take the Generic. I do have insurance, however my co-pay would be 300.00 dollars per month. No way can I afford that!

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
After going through your history, you are having migraine and on preventive therapy Topiramate as per prescription of Neurologist.
There can be some difference in purity and quality of branded and generic drug as the molecule is same.
Patients who use drug for very long time also sometime find it difficult to change the brand.
Please discuss your problem to your Neurologist and if required take branded topiramate for prevention of headache(Migraine).Specially you are facing side effects from generic version it is not the question of cost.
You can take branded Topiramate there is no problem how to get it you have to find out.It depends on place where you are working and living.
