Fractured A Bone In My Foot. Swollen. On Cam Shoe. Now Big Toe Is Pinkish In Color. Treatment?
I fractured a bone in my foot (towards the top) 5 weeks ago. It still swells at the end of the day which I can understand as it is down all day. I sleep with it up. It was never in a cast, they put a "cam shoe" on it. I see the dr again in a week. Pain is tolerable and seems to be only in the area of the break now. Today I noticed that a large area below my big toe is a pinkish/purplish color and I see small red lines through it like possibly capillaries. I'm not sure if this is ok or if I should be worried. It went though the whole badly discolored bruised time so this seems out of place for 5 weeks out.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us. If proper immobilization is not given at the time of fracture, pain and swelling persists for a long time.Pinkish/purplish colour below your big toe seems to be due to rupture of microvasculature most probably by injury or sprain. If it persist I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
